PROMASEAL® Electrical Junction Seal
The spread of fire from one compartment to another via services that penetrate compartment walls and floors is a major concern for life safety and property
protection. The penetration of such walls and floors by steel cable trunking is common and by their very nature (being enclosed systems) can easily be
forgotten and left unsealed on the inside. Cables inside such trunking can have a high fire load because of the PVC used for electrical insulation. Should
a fire occur, they provide an ideal passageway for fire to travel through buildings, especially if the cable trunking is unsealed at compartment floors
or walls.
PROMASEAL® Electrical Junction Seal (SJ) is a system that prevents spread of fire for
up to 120 minutes where steel trunking passes through compartment floors and walls of the same or greater fire resistance.
PROMASEAL® Electrical Junction Seal uses tested Grafitex® Technology to provide an economical and easy to install solution for steel cable
trunking up to 200mm x 200mm in size. It is available in THREE sizes to suit standard trunking:
1) 100mm x 35mm x 84mm;
2) 150mm x 50mm x 84mm; and
3) 200mm x 50mm x 84mm.
Grafitex® has been extensively tested by independent authorities around the world in a
multitude of fire stopping applications where combustible products may burn in a fire and the openings that result are quickly sealed by the expanding
Grafitex intumescent.
Recommended Specification
Where appropriate, the specified electrical junction box installed at walls/floors should be properly fire stopped by incorporating
PROMASEAL® Electrical Junction Seal capable of providing fire resistance of -/120/- when
tested and assessed in accordance with AS1530: Part 4: 2005 and/or BS476: Part 20: 1987. Installation of any fire stopping product should be carried
out according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Please consult Promat for more details.
