Material Description
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 is a single pack, water based acrylic
polymer for use as a water vapour permeable topcoat with excellent adhesion. It can be applied by spray, roller or brush.
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 is applied over vermiculite and
Portland cement based fire resistant coatings that protect steel and concrete substrates against ingress from salt
spray, washdown water, chemical spills, rainfall and sprinkler deluge systems. It is especially suitable for use over
Cafco FENDOLITE® MII and Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2.
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 may also be used on masonry, brickwork
and blockwork, whether dry or damp.
A wide range of applications will benefit from CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200.

Advantages

|
Possesses water vapour permeability and does not blister when used on steel and concrete substrates. |

|
Flexible, flame retardant, mould resistant, and helps reduce the carbonation rate of cement-based products. |

Typical Mechanical Properties
| Properties and
performance |
|
|
Colour and finish |
Usually matt white or grey. Please contact Promat for other colours. |
|
Typical thickness |
150-200 microns wet film thickness (WFT) 68-90 microns dry film thickness (DFT)
|
|
Practical coverage |
Dependent on surface texture, substrate porosity, application method and technique. |
|
Theoretical coverage |
6.7m²/litre at 150 microns WFT 5.0m²/litre at 200 microns WFT |
|
Number of coats |
Normally two coats. It is recommended that the first coat is a different colour from the second coat for
identification purposes. |
|
Cure |
By air drying |
|
Initial set |
½ to 1 hour at 20°C and 50% RH |
|
Drying time |
2 to 6 hours at 20°C and 50% RH. Varies with ambient conditions, but high humidity, low temperature and low air
change will hinder cure significantly. |
|
Water vapour transmission |
25g/m² over 24 hours for 150 microns tested to BS 3177: 1959 |
|
Surface spread of flame |
Class 1 to BS476: Part 7 on non-combustible substrates |
|
Volume of solids |
45% |
|
Density |
1.4kg/litre |
Please consult nearest Promat office for specific details relevant to local conditions.
|
|
| Typical substrates |
Concrete, sand and cement renders, masonry and cementitious fire protective coatings from Promat spray
materials, i.e. Cafco range of cementitious coatings. |
| Substrate preparation |
Surfaces to be coated must be free from oil, grease, visible moisture (including condensation), dirt, dust and mould.
Cafco range of cementitious coatings should be surface dry before the application of
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200. |
|
|
| Methods |
Stir CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 before use (do not thin) and
apply with an industrial type airless spray or lambswool roller. The latter is not recommended on heavily textured
surfaces.
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 may also be applied with a wide
nylon or bristle brush in small (maximum 1m²) areas only. |
| Limitations |
CAFCO® TOPCOAT 200 may be applied when the substrate
and air temperatures are at least 5ºC and rising. Maximum air and substrate temperature is 40ºC.
Substrate temperature should be at least 2ºC above dew point temperature.
Protect from rain, hail etc. until dry. |
|
|
|
Packaging |
25 litre metal pails. |
|
Storage |
Protect from frost, excessive heat (above 45ºC) and strong radiant sunlight. |
|
Shelf life |
Maximum 6 months in original sealed containers. |
|
Environmental |
Do not discharge into drains, watercourses or soil. |
