For use with Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 Vermiculite & Portland Cement-based Wet Mix Spray

Material Description

CAFCO® SC125 is a single pack, ready to use, synthetic latex, water based emulsion for use as an elastomeric sealer. It is designed for application to primed steel.

CAFCO® SC125 forms part of the Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 passive fire protection systems.

Building types that will benefit from the use of CAFCO® SC125, include a wide range of educational, leisure and entertainment centres, commercial and industrial projects.

Water based synthetic latex

Advantages

Suitable as a sealer over alkali sensitive primers that have been applied to internal steel or concrete substrates where flexing or distortion (within normal design codes) may occur.

Will accommodate such movement and minimise the risk of the debonding or consequent cracking of Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2.
Typical Mechanical Properties

Properties and performance
Colour and finish
Yellow with a slight sheen (nearest to BS4800: 1981, colour code 06 E 50). May be applied by spray, roller or brush.
Typical thickness
55-82 microns dry film thickness (DFT) from 100-150 microns wet fillm thickness (WFT).
Do not apply less than 100 microns (WFT).
Practical coverage
Dependent on surface texture, substrate porosity, application method and technique.
Theoretical coverage
8m²/litre at 125 microns (WFT)
Number of coats
One or more as required dependent on application technique. Additional coats may be applied once the previous coat is touch dry.
Over coating interval Touch dry ½ to 1 hour at 20ºC and RH 50%
Maximum over coating time
2 months with either additional coats of CAFCO® SC125, Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2.
Cure By air drying
Drying time
2 to 6 hours at 20ºC and RH 50%. The drying time will vary with ambient conditions, but high humidity, low temperature and low air change can extend cure time significantly.
Solids by weight 55%
Density 1.25

Please consult nearest Promat office for specific details relevant to local conditions.

Preparation
Typical substrates Primed steel and concrete
Substrate preparation
The substrate shall be clean, dry and free from visible moisture (including condensation), dust, loose mill scale, loose rust, oil and any other condition preventing good adhesion.

Application
Initial steps Stir contents before use. Do not thin.
Methods
CAFCO® SC125 may be applied with an industrial type airless or air-assisted spray, or lambs wool roller. It may also be applied with a wide, soft nylon brush in small (maximum 1m2) areas only.
Limitations
CAFCO® SC125 may be applied when the substrate and air temperatures are at least 2ºC and rising. Maximum air and substrate temperature is 45ºC.
Substrate temperature should be at least 2ºC above dew point temperature.
Protect from rain, hail etc. until dry.

Handling
Packaging 20 litre plastic drums.
Storage
Protect from frost, excessive heat (above 45ºC) and strong radiant sunlight.
Shelf life Maximum 6 months.
Environmental
Do not discharge into drains, watercourses or soil.
